domestic violence ted talk

The content in this ted talk is all about one lady, Leslie Morgan Steiner, who survived and was able to leave an abusive relationship. Abusive relationships are almost impossible to recognize because the abuser does everything in their power to prevent people from knowing what they are doing to the victim. This TED talk is related to The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian because rowdy is abused by his father. Unlike most situations though everyone knew that rowdy was abused because he never tried to hide his beatings. This ted talk is worth watching because it is very educational because Leslie tells you how to recognize these relationships. She also tells you how to get help if you are in one now. It was nice to know how to see these relationships and how to prevent them.

I hope everyone in the class watches this TED talk and pays attention to the message Leslie is sharing with us. Abuse can start in such an "innocent" way ... she does a very good job of teaching us about the signs to look for. An important message for teenagers - I hope that this makes our Top 5.

This TED talk would have to the top out of my top 5 because both the topic and the message were powerful and important. I also liked how Leslie let us into her personal life and shared her story so openly.

This is definitely in my top 5 Ted talks. It really touched my heart, her story. I think the reason it hit me so hard was because it was from her realistic perspective as her own story. It's inequitable that anyone has to live a life like she did and many other people do.

I loved this Ted talk. It has a lot of emotion and really answers that question "why doesn't she leave". This should be in the top 5.

I think you have recognized the power in this talk and perhaps can see that we could apply what we learn from it to understanding some of the characters in the novel as well - Arnold's mother and sister aren't "abused" in the physical sense but they most certainly suffer mental and emotional abuse (so does Arnold for that matter) and yet they still love those who hurt them. Steiner helps us to "walk a mile" in another person's shoes and start to understand.

This TED Talk about domestic violence provides a very important message to people of all ages. Steiner's story of herself being violated by her husband first of all gives us important details of domestic violence, like the stages of how it occurs, and to whom it can occur--that is, everyone. She also says that no one is facing anything alone in this world, that there are many people who are abused, and it is their job to tell people, and ours to help these people. As a result, I think everyone should watch this talk, because then the world will be aware of the fact that it is actually very simple to end domestic violence, therefore, it will.

I really enjoyed this Ted Talk because although it was extremely sad, it had an important powerful message. It also related very well to PTI because of the domestic violence Rowdy was facing with his father. I think this is in my Top 5.

This is definitely one of my top five Ted talks because it is such an inspiring story told from a woman who experienced domestic violence herself. This is a topic which is usually walked by and silenced, as she said, which is why it is so important.

Such an inspiring story. It really answers a lot of questions, especially the ones everyone is afraid to ask, such as "why doesnt she just leave him". It teached everyone about the point of veiw from someone who directly experienced domestic violence.
