Your product is appealing due to it's simplicity and smoothly relates to some parts of the text. Next time, try to use less words and other methods to make it more of a media product. From this product, I've learned more about speaking in tongues and snake handling after reading about Smokey's mom. No further questions.
The product was simple and easy to read and follow. The order made sense and you used your pictures well. I think your powerpoint might have been a little stronger if you did not use the animations as much, they distracted me from the actual information. I have learned more about some of the rituals and characteristics of southern religions and it helped to understand Smokey's mom's actions more. I have no further questions, I found this to be very helpful, it was very nicely done.
Your presentation was very easy to follow and full of great information! Before this powerpoint I never knew about Snake Handling and The Holiness Movement - it was really neat to see how The Salvation Army was created during The Holiness Movement. With regards to the Snake Handling, I love how you added pictures and gave lots of information on the topic because it was something brand new to me! One question I have is, was this a very common thing to do back in the 20's (did all families do that)? And when did it stop? When you added the quote from Fried Green Tomatoes with regards to when Smokey's mother got bitten, your background information on the Snake Handling really helped me understand that part better! Overall, a great presentation Karianne!
Your powerpoint was relatively smooth and pleasant to follow with excellent graphics that added to the points you were making. I had some prior knowledge about The Holiness Movement, it was so great to learn more. I especially enjoyed learning about Snake Handling, which definitely added to my understanding of Smokey Lonesome. The only suggestion I have is to paraphrase more, especially on a powerpoint presentation...There should be no more than 30 words per slide in order to keep the content flowing and easy to follow. Great job!
These types of religion - that involve such devotion even at the risk of believers' lives - really make me wonder how people can be so attached to a belief system like that. Isn't it strange how we've looked at the children who were affected by trauma in their early lives and how it turned out, and in many cases religion played a large role (or at least some of the more unusual methods of practicing religion).
This will be where we start to interact in the "outside of class, online" world. Continue discussions from class and start new ones.
